The Coupe de la Ligue
The Coupe de la Ligue, otherwise called the French League Cup is an annual national tournament for french football clubs, being held under the authority of the Ligue de Football Professionnel (Professional Football League of France). The Coupe de la Ligue history is not so rich, as far as the first tournament was organized in 1994. As contrasted with the Coupe de France, allowing amateur teams to participate, only professional clubs may take part in this competition. The winner is secured a berth at the Europa League.
The Coupe de la Ligue Regulations
The Coupe de la Ligue is the newest national Cup competition of Europe. It was established in 1995 while adopting almost all rules of the corresponding contest in England. All clubs from the first three divisions possessing a professional status participate in this tournament. Whereby the second and the third divisions representatives enter the contest at the final 1/32 stage, and the ticket to the Champions League owners join the tournament at the 1/8 stage.
